Summer 2008 Participants
Live in Spain for four weeks in the summer, taking classes at the University of Valladolid and enjoying the warm hospitality and vibrant culture of one of the world's great tourist destinations. Valladolid is in the heart of Old Castile, only 120 miles northwest of Madrid. The program includes: intensive language study with native professors; Cal Poly GE and major courses; a unique "immersion experience" while living with a Spanish family; excursions to cathedrals, palaces and the wine country; and memories that will last a life time. Enjoy the sidewalk cafes, the narrow streets, the beautiful parks and gardens, and the historical atmosphere of one of the regional capitals of Spain.
The program fee of $3,050 includes:
- Four units of Cal Poly credit in Spanish 102, 103, 121, 122, 124, 233 or 301, and three to four units in HUM 310 or ME 211
- An intensive language learning experience
- Room and board with a host family (double occupancy)
- Transportation from Madrid to Valladolid
Spain Summer Course Offerings 2008:
SELECT ONE COURSE:
HUM 310 -- Culture of Spain (GE C4) (4 units)
Study of life in Spain, including history, culture, politics, economy, immigration, and linkages with California. The course is designed to enhance the experience of living in Europe and will include field trips and walking tours.

ME 211 -- Statics (3 units) -- THIS CLASS IS CLOSED
Analysis of forces on engineering structures in equilibrium. Properties of
forces, moments, couples, and resultants. Equilibrium conditions, friction,
centroids, area moments of inertia. Introduction to mathematical modeling
and problem solving.
