Earn Academic Credit for Your CSTI Course
Cal Poly Continuing Education and University Outreach in partnership with California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI), California Emergency Management Agency is offering courses that can meet the requirements of a Certificate in Disaster Management and Homeland Security.
You can register to receive credit for these CSTI courses, and meet part of the certificate program requirements or fill elective requirements for the Cal Poly Adult Degree Program. You can also use the credit for other professional development requirements, including degree programs at other campuses of the California State University. With the course credit recorded on a Cal Poly transcript you have documentation on an academic standard for the coursework you complete.
The courses listed below are designed to grant academic credit to people who are already enrolled in courses hosted by CSTI. You must be enrolled in the course through CSTI before you register for these courses. If you are not registered in a CSTI course, go to www.oes.ca.gov/csti
Introduction to Emergency Management in California: Earthquake (CSTI ONLY)
Emergency management emphasizing the Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operations. Earthquake hazard used as the case to explore potential wide geographic impacts, multiple secondary hazards, and multidisciplinary problem-solving methods in natural disasters faced by local governments

Disaster Operations Planning focuses on developing emergency operations plans in support of local, state and federal emergency management community needs. Major aspects and necessary elements of emergency planning required in a multi-hazard emergency operations plan.

Disaster Resistant Sustainable Communities (CSTI ONLY)
Disaster Resistant Sustainable Communities focuses on the creation of safer, more resilient communities through the systematic application of urban disaster risk reduction and hazard
mitigation methods that utilize the technology of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) combined with principles from engineering, the geo-sciences, city and regional planning, and emergency management. Emphasis is on hazard identification and mitigation methods to lower
disaster risk. Taught by an Interdisciplinary Team of Instructors from California Polytechnic State University.
